IOWA WEFTEC OPERATIONS CHALLENGE TEAM
WEFTEC is an annual conference held by the Water Environment Federation that is attended by over 20,000 water professionals from across North America. Each year, qualified teams of operators have the chance to compete in the Operations Challenge to showcase their talents in wastewater treatment.
In 2023, Iowa Water Environment Association (IAWEA) was represented in the Operations Challenge for the first time by the Reclaimers (from Des Moines Wastewater Reclamation Authority). The Reclaimers competed again in 2024 and placed 6th overall in their division. They don’t have to be the only ones...IAWEA is able to send up to two teams to represent the state of Iowa at WEFTEC 2025 in Chicago in October.
The largest and most difficult hurdle for teams to participate is funding, especially for travel and training equipment. Funds raised in support of Operations Challenge will be used to lessen the burden for those competing at WEFTEC and to see Operations Challenge at a state level, for all to participate.
With your support, Operations Challenge can continue to grow in Iowa.
